Artwork?

  • Do you produce artwork
All artwork is produced in house by our highly skilled design team. You will liaise closely with our team to produce your commissioned artwork. If you have any specific requirement please let them know as early as possible to reduce untimely delays.
  • What is ‘Print Ready Artwork’?
Print Ready Artwork is a file that is supplied to us by you. All files should be supplied as a print ready PDF. This means ‘high quality’ and using the latest version of Acrobat. If you are supplying files for amendment please supply the original working / makeup files and all components such as imagery and fonts.
  • What is the difference between CMYK and RGB?
Everything that is viewed either on screen or through the web will use an RGB colour space. If the graphic is intended for print it should use a CMYK colour space. This is because all monitors will use RGB Pixels to render the graphics. All printers apart from dedicated photographic printers will use CMYK as the colour gamut is far greater than RGB. If you produce an RGB image on a CMYK printer it will look flat and without detail compared to an image that was converted to CMYK prior to printing.
  • What is Image Resolution?
Using poor resolution images from the internet or small images captured on a mobile phone or tablet will result in very poor quality results in reproduction. Images can be re-sampled and manipulated to a degree but the original must still be a certain resolution to start with to achieve acceptable results when enlarging.
  • My file is in KB is this ok?
Small files are not acceptable for large format production. If we produced a small file on a large format the results would e undesirable. The size of a file is determined by the amount of pixels within the graphic. Lower number of pixels indicated a lower file size. Lower file size means smaller graphic, which in turn means it cannot be manipulated for large scale production.
  • What is print bleed?
Bleed is the area around your finished artwork that is outside your trim marks or finished area. This area is trimmed off in the final finishing stage but allows for negligible tolerances in production. Supplied files should have a minimum of 5mm bleed, however we may ask for more depending on the production method. If you are unsure please ask.
  • Do you need Colour Bars, Trim and Registration Marks?
All print marks such as Colour Bars, Trim marks and registration marks should NOT be supplied with your artwork as this information is produced by our printers and production processes. They are used to help our print technician determine the accuracy of each print made. If a proof is supplied with these marks on its to indicate to you how your file will appear. If you print it on your own printer you may experience different results and the print marks would clarify any issues you may have.
  • What is a Vector Graphic?
Vector graphics are produced using points, polygons and lines. These allow us to create graphics which unlike raster images can be manipulated and scaled without compromising the quality of the graphic, this makes them ideal for logos and graphics where a consistent size may not always be guaranteed.
  • What is Raster Data?
Raster data such as JPEG, GIF, BMP, PNG are all types of graphics where the image is created or captured in pixels. Each Pixel is coloured individually and can’t be manipulated like a vector. If we scaled a raster image the data in each pixel would alter and the image would pixelate. Photographs and Images alike are types of raster files.
  • Do you supply electronic proofs?
We supply electronic proofs for the files you send to us and of the files we create; this allows you to double check you are happy the file we have received or produced is as you are intending it to be produced. If not it can be amended and re submitted. In some instances a Hard Copy can be requested for colour proofing and quality if required.
  • Do I need to outline fonts?
Supplying a font that isn’t outlined does mean we are unable to alter your files should anything need amending however an outlined font can be sent safely in a PDF without having to supply the original font. Some packages default ‘embed’ the font used and so outlining is unnecessary however some packages don’t. In order to reduce confusion and reduce wasted time in asking for revised files we ask that artwork is supplied outlined or either with a separate font file.

Printing?

  • What is the difference between ‘100% Black’ and ‘4 Colour Black’?
When we produce artwork many think ‘Black is Black’ this just isn’t the case. In a CMYK breakdown, a 100% K (Black) swatch will produce black however this will appear slightly weak. If we were to create the same swatch with 100% of each colour, i.e. creating what’s called a ‘4 colour Black’, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black; the swatch would be saturated giving a richer deeper black. However to enhance our 100% Black to make it look like a 4 Colour Black but use less ink we can achieve this by adding just 10% of each of the other colours.
  • What is the maximum sheet size you can direct print?
We can print upto 2500mm x 1400mm direct to any substrate upto 48mm thick.
  • What is the widest you can print?
We have the capabilities to print upto 3.2m wide; thats an impressive 126 inches in old money. Most roll lengths are 20m, 30m or 50m an these can be printed in one continual run if required.
  • I have a particular colour, can you match it?
Yes, we can colour match a specific fabric or item as close as we can using the latest in colour picking technology. If you require this service please do let us know as soon as you can as some colours can’t be mated due to the limitations of the production methods and inks used.
  • Are your inks safe?
We use both Eco-Solvent and UV curable inks in house; both inks once their off gassing period has surpassed renders them safe for over laminating or further handling. UV inks are hard wearing and don’t usually require any protection. Solvent inks require protection and have a longer longevity.
  • How long is your production time?
Every job will have a different turnaround time, this is dependent on the complexity of the task and also current work loads. However we aim from approved artwork 2 to 3 day turn around on most items. We will always let you know should longer time scales be required. If you are working with deadlines then please let us know at the quoting stage so we can program our work load on priority if deemed essential.
  • Do you offer and install service?
Simply put, Yes. All installs covered by TAD Ltd are done so at a time that has been agreed during the quotation stage. We aim to install during office hours however in some circumstances this just inst possible and so we offer a 24 Hour service should a twilight install be required.
